Swell (Fork or Pommel) – The front part of the saddle that rises up to support the front of the rider and connect to the horn.

Horn – A vertical knob mounted on the swell, used for roping cattle and providing hand support.

Seat – The part where the rider sits; shaped for comfort and support.

Cantle – The raised, curved part at the back of the seat that provides back support.

Skirts – The large leather pieces beneath the seat that protect the horse’s back from direct contact with saddle rigging.

Fenders – The wide leather panels that hang down on either side of the saddle, connecting the seat to the stirrups.

Latigo – A long strap used to secure the cinch (girth) on the left side of the saddle.
